As in any contemporary restaurant, taste and atmosphere go hand in hand at Modest. The dishes are sophisticated and nuanced; the decor is equally so. Sander Spreeuwers moved into a sleek modernist new building that exudes class and style. Black tones contemplate and contrast with a grey polished concrete floor and wooden accents in the furniture. For the tables, for example, we chose the Reverse Table by Andreu World in black stained oak. The round shape not only enhances the intimacy and cosiness during meals, but also provides a nice change from the predominantly straight lines in the rest of the interior. Rounded shapes can also be found in Artisan’s Neva Chair and Neva Light Chair, here in a version with walnut and a black leather seat.
To one side of the open kitchen is a space that serves as both a chef’s table and a room for private dining. There, we integrated a three-metre-long oval Reverse Conference Table by Spanish design brand Andreu World in a cement look. The sculptural table fits perfectly with the warm, minimalist décor and helps fuel the restaurant’s cosy living room feel.
